India’s private telecom operator Tata Communications Ltd on 13th Feb,2008 announced an investment proposal of over two billion dollars in the next three years to fund its global expansion plans. The Tata group owned telecom company, which launched a new brand integrating the former VSNL and Teleglobe brands, would leverage its Tata Global Network (TGN) in emerging markets in Asia and Africa to deliver a globally managed communications solutions.

The company said that Tata Communications is in the process of completing additional submarine cables systems connecting emerging markets in Asia, Middle East and Africa to Europe to meet the demands of consumer broadband and enterprise customers over the next five to eight years.

The company said it plans to increase its broadband penetration, and expansion into emerging markets, with a specific focus on the Internet Protocal (IP) network, MPLS, ethernet and value added managed services. The Tata Communications brand integrated the former VSNL, VSNL international, Teleglobe, Tata Indicom Enterprise Business Unit (TIEBU) and Cipris brands worldwide.

Tata Communications will invest around $1 billion in the submarine cable and WiMax businesses and another $1 billion for network expansion. The company is a part of a consortium that is laying a submarine cable system between India and France - India-Western Europe-Middle East (I-ME-WE) - and would invest around $45 million in the project. The consortium comprises 10 companies, of which the Indian partner is Bharti Airtel

Tata Communications had earlier announced a $250 million investment in TGN-Eurasia, another $200 million in TGN-Intra Asia and over $50 million in Seacom undersea cables. The remaining $500 million would be invested for WiMax operations, which were launched in Bangalore. The company is planning to launch the services in other cities, starting with Chennai, Delhi and Hyderabad. Another $1 billion would be invested in multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) and ethernet network rollouts across the world. This will ensure a scalable and secure network, through which the company will provide advanced services.

Tata Communications expects to post compounded annual organic sales growth of 15 per cent for the next four years. The company was also targeting a margin of at least 20 per cent on earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation on a consolidated basis for the next four years. Tata Communications shares gained 4.64 per cent to close at Rs 468.70 on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

MTNL

MTNL has launched broadband services under Brand name Tri Band. The services are being provided on the existing copper infrastructure, other services such as VPN, multicasting, video conferencing, video-on-demand and broadcast application shall also be added in future. Broadband Internet Service is being provided through the deployment of ADSL 2+ technology, a type of digital subscriber line(DSL). All Payments and Billing for the service will be included in the regular MTNL Telephone Bill.

The High speed data download for Broadband Internet data speed starts from 256 kbps to 2 Mbps. It facilitates Simultaneous availability of Phone and Internet on the existing Telephone line “Always on Internet“. And the user can share Broadband connection to create own LAN network i.e. more than one PC can be connected.

The MTNL Broadband Internet Services Tariff Plans includes TriB T10 with bandwidth speed of 256 Kbps. It has unlimited browsing but limited to 10 hours per monthly. After 10 hours they will be charged Rs 20 per hour. It also includes TriB 200P, DSL 399 and DSL 749 with bandwidth speed of 256 Kbps to 2 Mbps. And its free usage limited to 400 MB, 700 MB and 1.25 GB respectively. And DSL 599, DSL Trib 1199 and DSL 2399 with bandwidth speed of 512 Kbps to 2 Mbps. And its free usage limited to 1 GB , 2 GB and 4 GB respectively.

Other plans includes Trib Cyber B with bandwidth speed of 1 Mbps to 2 Mbps. And its free usage is upto 12 GB. Trib Cyber A with bandwidth speed of 2 Mbps. And its free usage is upto 16 GB. And it also offers Unlimited option in Trib Unlimited Plan with bandwidth speed of 2 Mbps. And its monthly charge is Rs 20,000.

Hathway

Hathway is one of the Broadband Internet Service Provider in India. Prepaid Vouchers are available at various dominations according to the user needs starting from Rs 333 to Rs 1666 with 1 month validity and Rs 1020 to Rs 5555 with more than 1 month validity.

In Online Speed Select the download speed varies from 100 Kbps to 1000 Kbps and charge is calculated as usage per minute. Data transfer plan offers Download speed of 2000 Kbps to 4000 Kbps . In Flat Fee plan the user can have unlimited usage of Broadband. And the download speed varies from 75 Kbps to 1 Mbps. It also offers Night Unlimited plan by which the user can have unlimited browsing during night hours between 10 pm to 8 am.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL )is one of the major Internet service providers of India as well as the largest and the oldest communications service Provider. The Broadband Service has been launched in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata from 14th January 2005.

The Broadband service will be available on DSL technology (on the same copper cable that is used for connecting telephone), on a countrywide basis spanning 198 cities. The different tariffs available in Home Plan are Home UL 900 Plus, Home UL 900, Home 250, Home 500, Home 1000, Home 1800 and Home 3300. The speed in Home Plan varies from 256 Kbps to 2 Mbps.
